Photovoice in Fresno: crosswalks, drinking fountains and safe places to play
The Central California Obesity Prevention Program (CCROPP) put cameras in the hands of teenagers in Fresno, asking them to photograph and describe everyday life in their neighborhood. View their photos overlaid on a map of Fresno. How does this fit in with obesity prevention? Ask the young photographers:"People that use drugs use them in the apartments where I live almost everyday, and because of this my mom doesn’t let me go outside to play." Marlen, age 13."In my street, Cedar, there are no crosswalks or sidewalks and across the street there is a lot of little stores that sell junk food cheap and healthy food expensive." Esmerelda, age 16."This filthy drinking fountain with wood chips is at a school ... when you are thirsty and come to this fountain you don’t want to drink water." Alma, age 13."If there is a fight between the drug dealers, they can have a gun. If they shoot and miss they can hit a kid." Antonio, age 13.
