Richmond's first murder of 2011 strikes a 16 year old

The first person to be killed in Richmond this year was 16 year old Gene Grisby. New America Media's youth reporter Sean Shavers interviewed Gene's classmates at El Cerrito High School and produced this video in partnership with his editor, Malcolm Marshall. Sean found out that the murder was connected to a fight Gene had had with another student a year ago. He writes, "That statement about “not being able to handle a fight” stuck with me while I conducted the rest of my interviews. When does a fight turn into murder?
