A jazz renaissance offers hope for Richmond's struggles

Though lesser known than its neighbor Oakland, the city of Richmond has a history deeply entwined with jazz music and culture. The community's hopes for peace are pinned on its renaissance today."In North Richmond jazz and blues clubs once thrived–Minnie Lue’s, Tappers Inn, and Club Savoy, among others. Club Savoy was home to the legendary Jimmy McCracklin, and owned by his sister-in-law Granny Johnson. The building later became the Green Pastures Church of God in Christ, (now Green Pastures Independent Faith,) and for more than half a century has maintained a deep commitment to living with music."Read more on Richmond Pulse.
