Police Chief and Mayor speak, in wake of toddler's death

In January, three people were shot as they stood in an open garage in the Rancho Mariposa neighborhood of Coachella. Unlike the two adults he was with, two-year-old Elijah Bañuelos could not recover from his injuries.  After the incident, Chief Raymond Gregory emphasized the community's role in solving violent crimes: “Someone knows something, someone saw something, but nobody is saying anything,” he said.  "We need help," said Mayor Eduardo Garcia, "to help us identify who is responsible for this particular incident, because I know there are people in the community that I know have information that can help us."  Still no suspects, but community members rallied to help the Bañuelos family raise money for funeral costs.Read this and a follow up at Coachella Unincorporated.
