Tennis courts (turned soccer fields) keep youth away from danger
Many youth who live in low-income neighborhoods are without adult supervision from the time they leave school until the time they have dinner, or later. DeForest Park in North Long Beach has become a place for kids all over the city, an after school destination and a place to sweat and socialize. Years ago, kids turned the tennis courts into a makeshift soccer arena -- a more popular sport among the low-income youth of Long Beach.
