Samoan dance brings healing to violence-prone SF community

Pelenise Faataui, a native of San Francisco’s Bayview Hunters Point neighborhood, lost a 14-year-old brother and several relatives to gang-related shootings. She started teaching Polynesian dance to bring community and comfort to neighbors also struggling with violence.  For now, she holds classes in front of her house in the West Point housing projects, but she is hoping to find a safer space for dance in local community centers.  Meet her and see her homegrown dance stage, on Voicewaves.[youtube=http://youtu.be/8ghEXV9lXJ4]
