Students use theater to present alternative school discipline policies

Last week, as students rallied in front of the Long Beach Unified School District the school board passed a resolution to encourage teachers and administrators to use alternative discipline policies in schools.  To magnify the discussion about school discipline policies, Long Beach youth performed "Tangled," a play that revolved around conflict resolution using the restorative justice model.  The dialogue was gleaned directly from local students, and crafted to demonstrate what students go through during school conflicts, casting situations in a light that's not always obvious to teachers and administrators.  "They are not just bad students all the time, there's something behind it."  Read the story and see some scenes from the play, on Voicewaves.[youtube=http://youtu.be/7cEUjdMp14M]
