The future of my family

Sometimes the ties linking siblings, aunts and uncles, and cousins are not sustained over time.  This can lead to the strange experience of meeting your family for the first time upon the death of a family member.  "I went to [my grandfather's] funeral because it was the right thing to do, but really, I didn’t know him very well.
