Waking up to lipstick on the mirror
When Kailynn Strambler got to junior high school, she began to feel more self-conscious about her looks. She started to pay more attention to her outward appearance, examining herself in the mirror and piling on makeup. But instead of making her more confident, all the focus on beauty had the opposite effect. She tells how she used a symbol of vanity to turn herself around and gain a new sense of self-assurance. "I began to write positive messages to myself on my bathroom mirror in bright red lipstick, saying 'You’re beautiful,' or 'Love yourself.'” Her commentary is on Youth Radio.
