Why do we trash women in hip hop?

Sunday Simon, a young musician with roots in early hip hop and rap, hosts a show in which asks older women how lyrics have changed. During the 90′s, says Simon, the way rappers showed their desire for women started shifting.  Some agree that earlier artists wrote more about love, and were more respectful of women in general.  But an "old school female rapper" interviewed thinks it's just a matter of perception.  "The only difference now is that things are more blatant... The game has changed, and today's music is just more open."  Her investigation of old school versus new school hip hop is one Newsroom Intern Podcast from Youth Radio.
