Obesity, depression in Ramona Gardens more common

Results of a health survey in Ramona Gardens indicate that most residents there are overweight or obese, and depression rates double those of the larger L.A. area.  Researchers and residents agreed that food markets and the stresses of poverty were key factors accounting for the disparities -- half the households there make less than $10,000 a year.  Affordable and accessible foods are also the less nutritious foods, and financial uncertainties play a big role in depression.  “I’m seeing a nutritionist, I have to eat more healthy, more fiber, less fat, less carbohydrate, walk some more, avoid stress. But there isn’t a supermarket close by.
