Residents favor Measure D for more direct representation

A grassroots committee of residents and elected officials is urging voters to pass Measure D, which they believe will improve Coachella Valley Water District representation for underserved Eastern Coachella Valley communities, such as mobile-home communities like Mecca.  Supporters of the measure say that minorities will be better served if board members are elected only by voters within their divisions, rather than by all voters in the district.  The aim is to make representatives more accountable to the residents of their divisions, bringing a more localized government.
