Homeless seek shelter from scorching summer heat
Eastern Coachella Valley residents are used to the intense summer heat, and tourists are often warned to stay hydrated. But for homeless and low-income families in the valley, the high temperatures can prove to be especially dangerous. The shelter Martha’s Village & Kitchen in Indio tries to give refuge, providing rooms called cooling centers, where clients can recline and enjoy the air conditioning. “It can be really uncomfortable and physically dangerous for [for people who don’t have shelter].
