Before they go: Parents and kids talk about campus sexual assault

College freshmen and sophomores are at higher risk of becoming victims of campus sexual assault.  Parents seeing their kids off to college feel compelled to warn them about the dangers of being too trusting of the young men they'll meet.  New students have to balance caution with the healthy process of making new friends. Parents find themselves in the role of breaking old taboos, and advise kids that dialogue is key to safety. "If you can't talk about sex, you should not have it. If you can't have a conversation with someone you're about to have sex with, that is an indication that you should not be intimate physically." Hear the whole story by Sayre Quevedo of Youth Radio.papers
