Prescription drug abuse in college
Prescription pills -- usually painkillers and anti-anxiety medications -- have been a regular habit among college students looking for a different buzz in addition to alcohol. Use of opioids, benzodiazepines, and stimulants like Adderall have been an insidious problem on campus, and a regular habit of many students. Since 1993, the spike in opioid and stimulant use have increased exponentially. "We had about 27 percent of students misuse prescription drugs to party longer. So what this suggests is that they may be co-ingesting with alcohol." Cyrus Abusaba, who lost his mother to an accidental overdose of Xanax, has the story for Youth Radio.
