Council District 14 candidates 'in focus'

What issues do political candidates talk about when Boyle Heights comes up in a question? Whether its focusing on land issues, like lifelong activist Nadine M. Díaz; trying to retrieve Boyle Heights from political neglect, like former L.A. County Supervisor Gloria Molina; bringing fresh ideas about revenue to the table, like Boyle Heights native and youngest candidate Mario Chavez; or making improvements by securing discretionary funds for the neighborhood, like sitting council member Jose Huizar; candidates are making a play to become a leader in Boyle Heights. “I believe in [economic] progress. However, I do believe that those that are directly impacted, whether they’re tenants, residents, small business owners… We need to sit at the table as well. Developers just cannot come in here and say this is our plan, this is going to be the best for you, listen to us, we know what is your future. No.” Profiles of four candidates for the Council District 14 seat are in the community's "In Focus" section on Boyle Heights Beat.Screen Shot 2015-02-11 at 10.50.34 PM
