Student reactions to Obama's free community college proposal
In his State of the Union address, President Obama announced a proposal to reduce the cost of college for students who maintain a 2.5 GPA. Eligible students would receive subsidized tuition up to $3,800 per year - an estimated 75% of the cost for community college. States that participate in the program will get federal funding to match their state investment, and will get additional funds to invest in state educational programs. But how does this proposal come across to community college students? “My personal issues with the plan is that it merely covers the cost like a band aid, rather than lowering costs for higher education for everyone, regardless of academic level.” More reactions to the announcement from students at Fresno City College, on The Know.
