Prop 47's second battle – getting the word out
Thousands could be eligible for a new process allowing nonviolent offenders to change their felony convictions to misdemeanors, opening the door to employment, financial aid, and citizen rights that they were formerly denied. These changes could affect many communities in California, but there is no statewide effort to tell people that they're eligible for Proposition 47 reclassifications. "The problem is that we don’t know about it. I had to find out about it through my probation officer. [It’s] funny because law enforcement hates Prop 47." Public defenders take on the task of getting the word out, in a report by We'Ced.
