Sex ed classes are back in schools

Starting this fall, students in California’s public schools will again be required to take a sex education class, something many schools had cut for the last five years due to budget cuts. A survey of more than 200 Roosevelt High School students conducted by their peers in early 2015 found that most Boyle Heights teens saw a need for a sex education class. A majority said that, without a formal class, they sought information about sex from their peers and online—not from adults in their families. "Sometimes as teens we get questions about sex, but some of us come from a community that has strict sexual rules.
