How peer counseling helped me feel safe at school

Finding an adult to help in a crisis isn't always feasible for youth experiencing acute mental health issues. One ninth-grader in the middle of a break-down turned to an unusual outlet for help: her school's peer counseling center. "Peer counselors aren’t trained professionals, but they are trained to handle what can be very emotional situations.
