Youth advocates react to Oakland police sex allegations
Youth service providers in Oakland were not surprised when nearly 30 East Bay police officers were accused of exploiting an under-age girl who was being trafficked in Oakland. At one shelter in Alameda for homeless youth, they estimate at least half the resident youth have been sexually exploited. The alleged crimes committed by Oakland cops have forced city leaders to start talking about the problem of sex trafficking. “Every institution has failed these girls."
