Democracy, up close and in person

Too young to vote, Yesenia Aguilar spent 12 hours volunteering on election day at a Kern County polling station. She watched people make important decisions on how to cast votes on local measures, state propositions and candidates for all levels of public office. Many people arrived with basic questions about the issues, and as Aguilar spent the day explaining the proposals she realized how many people enter the polls underprepared.
