Conflicted feelings: visiting the White House as a Latina

Traveling to Washington, D.C. for an event at the White House was a dream for Jessica Salgado, a student at California State University, Long Beach. Salgado couldn't have predicted that it would be the many homeless people she encountered near those historic buildings and the housekeeper's handwriting in her high-end hotel that stuck with her.  "I didn’t know how much being in Washington D.C. was going to change the way I see the Capital."
