Punks with a purpose: Eastside youth organize the backyard scene for social change

A punk rock collective in east Los Angeles wants to foster political activism in the city's counter-cultural scene. They're infusing everything from backyard music parties to self-published zines with messages about food injustice, environmental racism and police violence. “Our common goal, you know, is bringing consciousness and awareness to the East L.A. punk scene, to let them know that there is more happening out there instead of just saying ‘f***  the police.’ You can actually go outside and do something about it."
