First We Open Up On Mental Health. Then What?

People share a lot on social media. Now, there’s a new, typically-taboo subject that’s becoming more public: mental illness. On social media, young people will signal their mental health identities by adding "hashtag OCD" or "hashtag bipolar" to posts. Advocates have been working hard to destigmatize mental illness, and the new openness suggests that might be happening... but there’s not a lot of established wisdom on the healthiest ways to share such consequential stories, or on what happens when you do.
