Richmond Rallies To Defund Police

A year after Black Lives Matter protests shook the nation, Richmond, Calif. residents gathered at the Civic Center Plaza to show their support for reduced police funding. “Public safety [is] investing into the welfare and ability to heal the hurt that our Black and Brown communities are experiencing every single day,” said Richmond City Council member Melvin Willis, a staunch supporter of the move to reallocate $10 million from the police budget to other social services.
