They Are All Right: Teens Weigh in on Gender Pronoun Debate

Editor’s note: The singular “they” dates back to the 14th century, according to the Oxford English Dictionary. Yet even today, using “they/them” or other nonstandard pronouns is controversial. We asked a group of Kennedy High students how they feel about the expansion of gender pronoun language and whether it comes up in their daily lives.
