Graduation rates up in Kern County - but not for all

While graduation rates are rising and bucking a nationwide trend, some of the county's majority Spanish-speaking youth aren't joining the party.  Counselors say it's not academic, but social issues that keeps these Latino kids from graduating. Poor families, especially those of migrant farmworkers who are too much on the move to make school stick, struggle economically and don't have the education to advise their kids on school.  Students at Nueva Continuation in South Kern say some don't get that extra push at home to finish high school.
