Growing up behind bars: Letters from lifers

Richman Em was 15 years old when he was convicted of "felony murder," a legal provision that in California means a person can be charged with first-degree murder even when the act itself is committed by an accomplice. He was sentenced to 50 years-to-life in prison. As part of Youth Radio's coverage of the national legal battle over long juvenile sentences, reporters spoke with Richman and got his firsthand story.
