Slapped with a truancy ticket at school

Police issue truancy tickets to students all over Los Angeles, even on school property.  Lateness could bring a $250 ticket, an extra burden for low-income families.  Feeling afraid to go to school because of this harsh reception, students, teachers, and organizers formed the Community Rights Campaign and took it to the L.A. City Council. The true tale of school ticketing is on Boyle Heights Beat.
