To be brown, out and proud: theater event marks National Coming Out Day

National Coming Out Day is a civil awareness day established in 1988. Playwright Miguel García thinks it's important to celebrate the day in Boyle Heights, a predominantly Latino low-income neighborhood. "[We're] celebrating what it is to be brown, out and proud,” García said. “You’re proud to be Latino and proud to be gay and the two things are not in conflict.”  The event will benefit the Latino Equality Alliance, a grassroots organization that advocates for gay and Latino issues, like immigration reform.
