Federal Grant tries to fix education with "Promise Neighborhood" initiatives

A multi-million dollar "Promise Neighborhood" grant from within the U.S. Department of Education is targeting schools in Hayward's Jackson Triangle and other traditionally underserved communities.  The grants are an investment in services to improve education outcomes for youth living in areas of low graduation rates and high unemployment.  Modeled on the Harlem's Children Zone, the initiative has enthusiastic support and hard challenges.  Reporters have the full story on Youth Radio.promise
