Los Angeles is sometimes called the homeless capital of the country, with approximately 43,000 people sleeping on the street on any given night. But low-income residents also roam East L.A. sidewalks at night -- trash pickers who, struggling to pay rent, dig for recyclables despite the dangers of walking alone.
