Cuts to indigent care would hit undocumented Fresnans hardest

Fresno is one of a few counties in the state that offers health care services to every resident regardless of legal status.  But recently, Fresno County’s Board of Supervisors announced plans to eliminate the Medically Indigent Services Program (MISP),  established i 1984 to provide care to those (mostly single males) who were not eligible for state or federal health insurance.  The Affordable Care Act expands coverage to many of these Americans; but undocumented residents cannot apply for Medi-Cal under the Act.  Advocates are speaking up to prevent the cuts.  "[Fresnans] need to be aware that these programs benefit people of color and those are the programs being cut.”  Read more on The Know.undoc
