Healthcare "on the streets of Oakland"
With the health care reform law underway, the challenge is to reach communities that could benefit from it the most: low-income citizens previously not eligible for Medi-Cal. Word on the street is that many who suffer from chronic conditions, like asthma, that plague urban neighborhoods don't know enough about the law. "Being from the neighborhood I'm from, low-income, pretty much what they call the ghetto - West Oakland - probably about 60 percent senior citizens. Everybody else is young people, and I'm pretty sure most of 'em don't have health care." DetermiNation, a Boys & Men of Color media team at United Roots in partnership with Urban Peace Movement, made this PSA for spreading the word about health care eligibility, on Vimeo.[vimeo=http://vimeo.com/74332340]
