Crowdfunding my way to college

With no one to guide him through the application process, Fernando Almaraz was thrilled to get into George Washington University with a decent financial aid package. But when he was hit with an $800 registration fee, he turned to crowdfunding as a strategy to raise money.  After a short period of time, he'd raised more than enough to pay the fee, and felt a feeling of solidarity with those strangers who helped him out. "One anonymous donor gave me over $400, because she almost had to put off attending Columbia University because of money." Listen to the story from Youth Radio.
