Locals reach for health care, while advocates try to catch the uninsured
Community organizations in Richmond held a meeting to educate residents about what health coverage they qualify through the Affordable Care Act. Formerly uninsured residents often face a confusing process, with delays of Medi-Cal coverage, and referrals to the state's insurance exchange without clear instructions about subsidies, and different requirements for different family members. “They’re trying to get everybody into the health plan but it’s not working, you know? [My] kids are stuck in the middle.” The event revealed the complications beneath health reform's promise of "coverage for all." The report is on Richmond Pulse.
