Cuban healthcare impresses South Kern delegation
Months before news broke that President Obama would open diplomatic relations with Cuba, delegates traveled to the island nation to study its healthcare delivery system. A Central California delegation, visiting clinics, farms, schools, and arts programs; they spoke to Cubans in various groups about how they experienced the Cuban health care system. "I learned that technology is not the answer to improving U.S. health outcomes. Cubans benefit from a committed government, a large number of trained medical professionals, and a widespread network of consultorios, or [clinics], found in nearly every neighborhood in the country." Two local leaders, Arvin's public schools superintendent and a community health director, spoke about the trip to South Kern Sol.
