With racism in national spotlight, a Charleston teen reflects

Elisha Black is a high-schooler and self-proclaimed theater kid raised in Charleston, South Carolina; he’s explored racial identity and stereotypes through drama roles and in his everyday life. The horror of the church massacre made him reflects on the subtler degrees of racism he observes as a black teen in the south. "Like the time an older white lady told me I was the second funniest black person she knew... Most people don’t overtly preach white supremacy. They don’t even know when they’re coming off rude or racist. But they also don’t seem to be very interested in educating themselves.”  His commentary was on Youth Radio.
