Residents say there are ways to quell violence this summer

It's been a violent summer for Long Beach. Summertime, when kids are out of school, tends to see a spike in crime, and last month was the most violent June in recent years. Tired of the terror on the streets, concerned residents, activists, neighborhood groups and clergy are meeting to brainstorm for solutions to abate further violence. Some at the meetings attribute the rise to budget cuts in youth programs; they say keeping youth busy and off the street takes the whole community’s effort.
