Civic education for a new generation

A study on youth voting and civic knowledge showed that what's taught in government and civics classes varies widely between schools.  Kids from more diverse schools are less likely to talk about current political issues, and are also less likely to vote.  With such a range of students, teachers are afraid to stir up too much controversy in the classroom.  Unfortunately, this also makes learning opportunities are unequal. Students in Oakland talk about their civics classes, and the challenges of educating today's kids about the government, on the Youth Radio Podcast.civics
